Another year, another camp and what a wonderful week it was! Aughnamullen GAA hosted over 200 children at our annual summer camp with the help of 50+ coaches!
The week went well and we were far luckier this year with the weather than the previous!
For a camp to run and accommodate this number of children takes a lot of organisation and help from the community.
A huge thanks to our organising committee Angela Duffy, Bea McArdle, Briege Sheridan, Yvonne Murtagh, Finbarr Crowe, Noeleen Deery and the one and only Annie Hannaway who came all the way from Dubai to be here. She is the chief organiser with rotas, games, coaches, teams and scoreboards. She is one in a million so thanks Annie!
Thanks to our coaches, some who came from other clubs and gave their time to volunteer and help. We hope the Aughnamullen top was worth it!
Thanks to our car park stewards Seamus, Tommy, Packie and Paddy who with Finbarr’s guidance kept the children safe and the traffic flowing. We promise to upgrade the biscuits for your tea next year!
Thanks to Mary Duffy who is always there to keep the tea and biscuits going all day for our helpers and coaches and to Briege Sheridan for donating barrels of biscuits!
Thanks to our first aiders Sharon Crowe, Anita Finnegan and Bernie Murtagh. The magic spray you have works wonders! We wish Carla Keenan a speedy recovery with her injury she received during the mini leagues. Your team missed you at the final!
We were honoured to have our very own club and Monaghan county players, Micheál Bannigan and Ulrika McMahon attend to present the certificates for skills challenges and mini leagues. The children then took the opportunity to have photos taken and get jerseys, bags and boots signed by our local celebrities.
A huge thanks to our chef Ollie Morrisey who came and cooked the food for the children on the last day. Thank you to McGee meats for sponsoring the sausages and Gifts n Things for sponsoring the bowls.
We are still extremely grateful to KeeBride Construction who this year became our summer camp main sponsor. Thanks to Angela Keenan and Donna McBride for cutting the ribbon for our official opening!
Thank you to all the parents for your patience at drop off and pick up as we know it’s busy and we really appreciate you adhering to the one way system.
Last but not least a thank you to all children that attended. They are all a credit and we hope they all enjoyed the week!
Just a reminder that our summer camp is organised and ran by the local community and the feedback from the children is always positive. If any parents/community members want to get involved or have any positive suggestions they are always welcome!
Annie is heading back to Dubai soon and the committee wish her all the best for the year ahead but will make sure her ticket is booked back for next year!
