Rationalisation and amalgamation on the football front took place much earlier than that on the dairy front. In the early decades of the GAA in the area teams were affiliated at various times as Laragh, Tossey, Lough Egish, Carrickatee, Ballytrain, Creeve, Laggan, and Sragh.
Folk memory assures us that football was strong and victorious in the parish of Aughnamullen East in the early years of the GAA and it is recorded that in 1891 a local team won a silver cup and championship by defeating Inniskeen. In 1928 the local team affiliated as Lough Egish Sarsfield’s and the following year 1929 they won the county junior championship.
